Chinese buses to hit the roads

Featured Replies

Phnom Penh is to get five new bus routes when China donates 100 buses within two months, according to City Hall. Phnom Penh Governor Pa Socheatvong said the new routes would help reduce traffic congestion in the capital and should be operational in June or July.

There are currently three bus routes in the city served by 57 buses on a daily basis. “Using public transport is a good way cut traffic jams in our Phnom Penh city,” Mr Socheatvong said. He added that transport officials are busy preparing new street maps to reflect the additional routes, while 360 additional bus stops would be installed.

Ean Sokhim, director of transport at City Hall, said the new routes would run from Central Market to Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone, from Preah Monivong Bridge to Prek Pnove Bridge, from Prek Leab carpark to Century Plaza market, from Preah Monivong Bridge to Wat Sleng and from the French Embassy to Preah Monivong Bridge. “We chose these routes after conducting research with the Japan International Cooperation Agency,” Mr Sokhim said. “There are many people living along these routes, as well as state and private institutes, factories, schools, hospitals and markets.”

ThaiVisa, c'est aussi en français

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Great news.

BTW, I can see why basically no tourist takes the bus from PP airport into town (a bit of a trek to the bus stop;  heading left and towards the exit seems to take you to the closer one) but I now prefer to sit in the air-conditioned relative calm and safety compared to a tuk tuk.

" donates 100 buses "                How nice of them !
