BANGKOK, 8th May 2017 (NNT) - The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission is planning to close the analog broadcasting system in Thailand in three years.

NBTC Vice Chairman Col. Natee Sukonrat said that the planned end of the analog broadcasting system has been acknowledged by Channel 5 and Channel 7, who agreed in principle with the plan.

Col. Natee said that both channels’ analog broadcasting concession was originally to expire in May 2023 and Channel 7 had already informed the NBTC that it will start ending this traditional broadcasting system in some areas from June 15 of this year, before the whole system is totally switched off by 2020.

As for Channel 3, which holds a broadcasting concession from MCOT that expires in March 2020, he said that the NBTC is currently in talks with the operator to end the analog broadcast earlier than that.

Col. Natee went on to say that Channel 11 is already planning to switch off its analog system by December 31 of this year, while Thai PBS and Channel 5 will end their use of the analog broadcasting system by June 16 of 2018 and MCOT will do so by July 16, 2018.
