LAMPANG: -- A couple travelling with their seven-year-old son were arrested in Lampang province when troops and police allegedly found more than 1.1 million methamphetamine pills and seven kilograms of crystal meth, or “ice”, in their pickup truck.

The couple were arrested at a road checkpoint jointly manned by troops and police on a highway in Lampang’s Mae Prik district late Sunday night.

The two were identified as Saisayam Jaimoi, 27, and his wife, Somruethai Bua-in, 27. Both are residents of Chiang Rai’s Phan district.

The drugs were found in a secret compartment built under the truck. They had their son sit beside them.

Authorities made the truck pass through an X-ray scanning machine at the checkpoint and found the drugs.

The couple said they were hired by a drug agent in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district to deliver the drugs to a buyer in Bangkok.
