Apartments/condos That Don't Have Wireless Internet

Featured Replies

Is there any way I can get wireless internet in the room I rent if the apartment/condo building doesn't have it's own wireless network?

Install your own wireless router connected to an adsl enabled phone socket. :o

or, for speed, a satelite broadband

You're probably not allowed to install satellite internet in a condo!

If you have a private phone line and lucky enough to be in an ADSL serviced area, do as Astral posted...

Otherwise you only have two options:

Hutch wireless internet through their cdma mobile network

or

GPRS / Edge from either AIS or Dtac on their GSM networks

None are fast, but they do work. Put it on your laptop and you'll have access pretty much anywhere you go!

Which is better, the Hutch or AIS/DTAC option? What are the differences and costs? I guess you subscribe to the service and buy a data card off them, or can you connect your mobile to the laptop and dial up from that?

"Hutch wireless internet through their cdma mobile network"

When I tried to buy this in MBK Bangkok

I was told that it is only available to Thai people

or Foreigners who had a work permit.

Being neither I don't have it.

I tried it and it works well.

Hutch are a great telephone network

but the administration is very Thai.

Have you tried satellite broadband in Thailand? Speed and Satellite do not go together in the same sentence! I had IPSTAR from CS Loxinfo for almost a year, it sucks! Didn't work most of the time, couldn't support Skype calls, download speads not even close to the bandwidth promised. Stay away from it. I hear TOT is better but still in the city why would anyone go for IPSTAR which is more expensive even if it did work perfectly?

ADSL plus a wireless router is the way to go.
