PHUKET: -- Lifeguards at Patong Beach believe that a Chinese tourist was injured by a stingray while swimming at the busy Phuket beach yesterday afternoon (May 9).

The tourist, 28-year-old Li Guangwei, from Guangdong, shouted for help at about 3pm after he felt a stabbing pain in his left foot while swimming in front of the Banana Walk mall on Thaweewong Rd.

Lifeguards brought him ashore and provided first aid.

“He had a hole in his foot and was bleeding. He was very frightened,” one lifeguard told The Phuket News.

“He even had difficulty breathing. We provided first aid and Kusoldharm rescue workers took him to Patong Hospital.”

My thoughts are he was stung by a stingray and also had a dose of the crabs discovered whilst being examined !

These doctors must have been from the same medical staff here in LOS that has so far discovered cures for HIV,Malaria, and the Ebola disease that the worlds best laboratories are still trying to find..Somebody please sell them another type of diploma so they will quit pretending to be doctors.

Stingray barbs don,t usually come out unless they are cut out, having around 30 barbs per inch. I got gored to the hilt by a 75kg eagle ray, and even a big guy with a pair of pliers could not pull it out. with 150 barbs holding it in the only solution was to head for a surgery and have a 5" hole cut in my leg. It only hurt when I laughed !

He  had a hole inhis foot and it was bleeding. He was very frightened and had trouble breathing. Ok but he was still not too out of it to prevent him playing with his bloody phone.

Be fair - that photo has obviously been taken in hospital after he had received treatment - he was probably phoning his insurance company!

If he was a resident of Hong Kong maybe but if he was a locust from the mainland, then probably a bucketful of fried shrimp, chicken and rice.

Probably a piece of sharp rubbish. Rebar steel or something discarded in the bay.
