TAT to promote year-round tourism

BANGKOK, 10 May 2017 (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has collaborated with 17 provinces in the central region to promote year-round and off-season tourism.

Deputy TAT Governor Sujitra Jongchansitto chaired a meeting with officials from 17 central provinces on the use of social media to increase tourism sales. He said networking and business partnerships will help enhance the industry’s potential and facilitate information exchange between organizations.

The new campaign will promote off-season tourism to reduce bottlenecks during calendar highlights and promote a steadier, year-long stream of income for businesses. The campaign will focus on reaching more customers through various online channels.

wonder how they are going to do that.  lots of claims but no substance.

All they have to do is grow some snow and you have an all round holiday destination

But as water is in short supply and they cannot even contain that I would say impossible but Dubai has it.

Truthfully I think its had its time and with the news stories of late is fast becoming a place to avoid.

Suggestions: remove age and financial requirements for retired people and issue a "permanent visa"

Visa runs are a waste of money, money that could contribute to the local economy supporting thousands of families. Instead we are causing unnecessary pollution, gridlock on the roads, airports and border controls, wasting taxpayers money.

Visa runs are a great money earner here, that is why they make you do it, just think of how many people you meet on route and how much cash you pass buying food, drinks, vans, tips, back-handers, items.

Here're some suggestions..,

(1) Visa-Runs should be similar to a 90 days report. Let it cost 1 or 2000baht and this way it will generate revenue to the national budget, instead of wasteful agencies driving minvans like crazy speedboats.

(2) Provide incentives for people who work remotely and assist with easing of the permits for digital nomads. Thailand could be the first country to attract new, young and driven entrepreneurs from the world scene and help speed up the 4.0 vision. Now is a great opportunity!

(3) Reduce bureaucracy, increase efficiency - streamline good quality tourism and continue with the good guys in, bad guys out. Phase out corruption in all areas and treat GOOD tourists with dignity and welcome them back despite the fact they might have had previous tourist visas. Think Long-Term.

(4) Double the bank statements requirements for METVs to ensure people can afford their stay which also neglects any suspicions of illegal work.

(5) TAT did you read this? No? Ok.

Unfortunately tourist are becoming familiar with the Thai practice of double charging them, being targeted by the police for false infractions (and faced with fines paid on the spot), as well as some of the poor infrastructure that has been passed off as five star. But the real issue for year round tourism is the weather....the extreme heat and heavy rain knocks the stuffing out of a good vacation.

They could start with discounts offseason, like you only pay 5 times the price insteaed of 10 to visit the waterfall. Maybe also decrease the price to use atm's offseason...220 baht is vely much for something which is free in Malaysia and Singapore.

I'm sure there is a W missing somewhere, possibly an s as well.

For Samui they could offer free hire of canoes/dinghies/pedaloes during the rainy season and also distribute free umbrellas and rain macs at the airport instead of SIM cards.

More importantly a 'missing drain cover detector' for every tourist.
