Such news reports/video may be embarrassing to the Thai government.  But IMHO factual video of this type doesn't defame the Royal Family nor commit LM - it is a factual news video of an event, not something that has been 'invented'.

 

I don't think Facebook will agree to block such content.

If there were to be a video filmed in a shopping center overseas that defamed the royal family, perhaps the only person who could be accused of Lese Majeste would be, oh, I think its bedtime.

I am not particularly interested in the detail of this issue but surfing the web today I stumbled across it repeatedly.

 

By seeking to get Facebook to ban certain pages they ensured that the content spread to the point where their ban is futile.

It's everywhere across social media now not just facebook and youtube, I've received 3 posts already today.  This wasn't even heard of until the junta advertised and publicised it with threats.  If they kept their mouths shut it would have been a drop in the ocean.  Now more and more photos and videos are comming to light and being flood on social media world wide.  Shut down facebook and the gecko drops it's tail but it's still out there on all the other sites.

Yes, none so blind as those who do not wish to see. What is the point of hiding the truth, unless you are scared perhaps of losing power and/or control?

The educated world knows what is going on. I think that this "loss of face" will probably never be recovered from.

The tragedy for Thailand is that this loss of face assumes that they had some 'face' in the first place. The world on the whole sees Thailand as a cheap , scam infested , coup prone ,  sex -tourist destination that has a penchant for killing tourists. This event just adds another nail to its reputation coffin. Nothing amazing about it.

The world doesn't see Thailand like that at all. Thailand is one of the most popular places in the world for tourists,  working expats from whatever country and retirees.

Hey let's look at the alternatives in south-east Asia:

Indonesia- ex mayor of Jakarta in the slammer for 'blasphemy' and being Christian, currently  there is a campaign aimed at any non- Muslims in the country.

Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, Brunei, Myanmar - political freedom -nil

Philippines-  mass killings of 'drug' suspects

Cambodia- a dictatorship 

Outside Asean you have China and its great internet wall.

In Asia, political freedom only exists in Japan, India and South Korea and even there cartels and old boy networks are prevalent.

You're quite right I should have said much of the world's media sees Thailand as ..... rather than the world as a whole. And as such media tends to focus on the bad news end of the spectrum.  Oh and there's now a Taiwanese cartoon they need to ban as well.

as far as i can see its not aobut banning facebook just banning some of links which may or may not be right to so without knowing links its not possible to say for example links to porn sites are alreasy banned in Thialand or links to many porn sites which i totally agree with

IMO in west we live with as much but hidden censorship and IMO far less freedom than i enjoy here even as a forang i totally agree for example with ban on being rude or inpolite or any words against what were not allowed to comment on and i really love the way in my daughters school every morning they raise thai flag and honour the king. When i was a kid in Uk one stood up for queen in cinema and while i dont necerssarity bleieve in monarcy its wonderfull how kids at schools here show respect unlike in many schools in UK IMO its all a very small price ot pay for the so called democracy we have in west

I can just remember being a kid when the National Anthem was played in the cinema and there was a rush to get to the exit before it was played. If something is loved then people give their love back freely if not one shouldn't force anyone into 'professing love' . Thailand is at a crossroads I hope it goes in the right direction.

But then again Thailand has its own way, 'managed' democracies and all that so that could be the way for the next few years. I see Suthep has openly supported Prayud to be next PM, to me that suggests a break-up of the Democrats in the future.

Arresting facebook staff would be a bad move. Facebook is powerful. Really really powerful. They literally control the entire worlds worldview. 

I imagine something like this.

 

1. Facebook employees arrested.

2. Facebook reacts by making world news story about the incident.

3. The entire world condemns thailand.

4. Prayut tries to block fb.

5. Thai people now also hate him, making it the entire world including thailand hating him.

6. Revolt.
