Ah so!

Whackos on , whackos off !!

well so many comments without knowing actually what went wrong? no one wants to get in to fight in a foreign land untill and unless they need to defend themselves or feel any sort of threat, i suppose. But then again i can be wong.

I bet they even can't speak to eachother...the boatguys can't speak english.

There are 2 quite short English words that when used together have an almost universally understood meaning. 3 Fs and a couple of vowels out of 7 letters, if you need help.

I don't think so. Japanese are very polite and patient people.

I can only imagine what ticked him off....most probably some extremely rude local drunk guys, scammers or con artists plying these canal routes.

Right.  All Japanese are identical clones, walking around doing stereotypical things exactly like other Japanese people.

doesn't sound to be speaking Japanese to me.................

If his finger was chopped he would be covered in tattoos, wouldnt he ?

Japanese whitening creme.....available on <<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Maybe the Japanese guy was copy-cating the rumbles on United flights in the USA.

He should be fined 100 baht for not wearing his shirt.

Why does one have to take off his shirt in order to fight.....is it a Japanese ritual?

Either he doesn't want to give his opponents anything to grab on to, or he hopes the sight of his manly body will make them back down. More likely, he thinks there's a possibility he may end up in the klong.

And Land of Smiles refers to the wide range of meanings to Thai smiles (many of which are unfathomable to farangs), not that Thais all giggle uncontrollably.

This "vaguely sumo- like" was lucky, his Thai opponents were not numerous enough

They were Thais, not British football hooligans who only become brave when sufficiently numerous.

Imagination is a wonderful thing and so agenda-driven.

Fortunately Japanese never drink to excess.

Some think it makes you look hard, others use it for a preempted strike.

I would have been quite happy to slap, the slap happy jappy. with shirt or without shirt, Suprised ten Thai kicking ninjas did not appear and form a Circle round him and kick him while he was not loking Thai style.

Sumo?  He's just big boned. ?

That's not a gut, I'm just vaguely sumo like.

With only two Thais on a boat, he actually had a chance.

Or for wearing a shirt like that in a Built up area,

This was an attempt to introduce some new blood into the picture, as there wasn't much if any earlier as the captain nipped the incident in the bud very quickly

The Thai guy said something about two inches and two minutes and the Jap guy got upset for being taken as a Cheap Charlie.

So much for the called for protocol of acting like the guest of Thailand. Driver of the boat made a great decision to dock the boat so they could get off.

Oh well, at least he has an evening at the Thermae to look forward to, he'll find some better company than those horrible boat boys.

either had too much Saki or Mekhong and forgot where he was for a moment....

His pinky chopped?

You mean he was of the hebrew persuasion??:cheesy:

The Thais needed another 6 of their friends to make it a fair fight.

Very patient and polite until they aren't.  They don't like being backed into a corner, and have huge difficulty admitting they're wrong.  That's not a trait that's exclusive to the Japanese, of course, but it's compounded by the 'face' issue, and more so men who are the perpetrators.

Sound familiar?

I spent several years working in Japan.

Taking a shirt off is the international sign for a fight

In his case I think it was an appeal for sympathy. Looks like someone gave him a reverse 'wedgie'.
