maximum trips on tourist visa

Featured Replies

Hello does any one know the maximum amount of trips under a tourist visa you are allowed in one year. Have friends from Australia that have been told to upgrade to a marriage visa if they want to enter the Kingdom again.

There is no limit on tourist visa entries. Who told them there was one?

If marriage visa means a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage to a Thai that is a better option anyway.

If your friend is married they should be entering using a non immigrant visa, not a tourist visa.

It's possible your friend has been entering under the Tourist Visa Exempt Scheme (no visa) and immigration at the airport have told him to get a visa.

If they are married, and travel back and forth frequently, the easiest solution may be a Non-O Multiple-Entry visa obtained at a Thai Consulate in Australia or at Savanakhet, Laos.   Then, when entering the country on the Non-O, it would be a good idea to have a copies of the marriage-certificate, the wife's ID, and pictures with the wife on his phone.   The latter documents/photos will probably not be requested, but have been in rare cases - so be prepared for the worst, and then relax worry-free.

In all cases upon entry, have 20K Baht worth of cash or travelers checks which should be "helpfully" shown, if questioned.

The next best option is a "Tourist Visa" obtained at a consulate which, as elviajero pointed out, is NOT the same as a Visa-Exempt entry.  They are becoming increasingly difficult with people entering often on Visa Exempt entries.  My advise is that anyone coming to Thailand more than "rarely" should forget the "Visa Exempt" option even exists.

You might want to check your figures for family, individual and visa exempt, because they are not all 20k.

Poor incorrect advice.

Technically, the Exempt is only 10K.  But, many have recommended showing at least 20K - especially since that particular method of entry has the most intense scrutiny.   Therefore, good advise, IMO.

Also, "For a family together" is different than a single-individual, yes.  But this relates to children.

Note that a "family" crossing in from Malaysia was required to show 20K in cash for Husband (of a Thai wife on a Non-O), plus 20K each for his parents who had Tourist Visas, and traveling with them.  Luckily, the Thai-wife was with them, and she could run into Thailand to retrieve the cash while they waited in no-mans' land.  Good thing the ATM limits / cards worked out for getting 60K Baht in a hurry.
