Recent heavy rains in the North and Northeast have caused heavy floodings in 61 villages in seven provinces, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department said on Thursday.

The department said the floods have so far damaged 853 houses in 14 districts of five northern provinces of Kamphaeng Phet, Uttaradit, Chiang Mai, Phitsanulok and Lamphun and two northeastern provinces of Loei and Udon Thani.

Kampaheng Phet was the hardest hit as the floods hit farms, fields and remote areas. The department said 800 houses in Kamphaeng Phet were damaged.

It said 47 houses were damaged in Uttaradit and six houses in Chiang Mai.
