Security officials on Friday brought a suspect in the Big C department store bomb attack in Pattani province for a reenactment, starting with robbing a pickup truck, killing the owner and rigging the vehicle with bombs.

Suhai-mee Samaae is the only suspect in custody of the May 9 attack that injured 80 people and destroyed vehicles parked at the store in Muang district.

The suspect was covered by a black hood amid tight security.

He began the reenactment at Ban Takong mosque in Nong Chik district, which was used as a meeting place with other accomplices, before moving on to Banmai mosque where pickup owner Nuson Kajornkam was killed.

Nuson, 45, a native of Yala province, was lured to Pattani after the attackers told him they wanted buy his goods. His body was found in a paddy field in Nong Chik district on May 11.

The vehicle was then rigged with explosives before being parked near the store entrance on May 9.

Meanwhile Fourth Army Region Commander Lt General Piyawat Nakwanich said arrest warrants had been issued for 11 suspects in the Big C attack, although he believed 15 people could have been involved.

He said the suspect, Suhaimee, had confessed to the bombing, which led to the reenactment and expansion of the investigation.

Piyawat said he believed the accomplices were part of a group trying to instigate chaos in the Southern region.

As a security measure, shops were advised to install security cameras; the authorities would award a green flag to those with cameras and either red or yellow to those who did not.

Religious leaders have been invited to meet on Saturday to discuss the use of mosques in planning the attacks and killing a man.

It's called an insurgency whose aim is some degree of autonomy for the Muslims in southern Thailand traced back to the former Muslim Kingdom of Pattani.

For the military it's been chaos but for the insurgents it's been strategic violence.
