Renewing of car and motorcycle driving licence

Hi!

I have driving licences for both car and motorcycle that was issued the first time in 2005 were I got a 1 year driving licence, then I waited until it had already expired before I went to the (transport department?) and renewed it as they gave me longer time than usual if I waited until it had expired (I got 11 years validity when I extended).

Now it will expire again in August, how do I do in order to get as long renewal of the driving license as possible?

Thanks in advance!

The 11 year (from 10 year) validity must be a thing from the past.

I only knew about lifetime licenses in even earlier times.

Nowadays you will get a "5 year" extension (up to your 5th birthday following issuance).

Similar procedure: go just after expiry and you will get nearly six years.

@KhunBENQ, thanks for your reply.

I might not be in the country when my license expire, how long after expiry date can I go?

What happens if I go now? 5 years from the day, I go if I go before expiry date?

You can go 3 months before expiry and I think up to one year after. You will get another 5 years, 6 years if you go a day after your birthday.

I also just realized that the address is written on the back of the license.

Must/should one update the driving license if one is moving?

You say your licence expires in August, give them your new address then.

As already written, 3 months ahead, up to one year after expiry without extra effort.

Address change is not an urgent matter.

A DL is hardly accepted as a proof of residence anywhere.

So do it with the new license.

In 2005 getting 11year DL's either a mistake or maybe something else.

Got my 1 year 1st DL's in 2005 when renewed got nearly 5 years 8 months to expire on my birth date,  renewed 2nd time 5 years only.

I think the Op is suggesting that he's had the 1 year followed by 2X5 year renewals.
