Quick METV questions

Featured Replies

I have searched the forums for answers to my questions, however, I can't get specific answers for my queries - so I apologize in advance for being the new guy asking lots of questions.

I will be applying for my METV around the 5th of June (just waiting for my latest Natwest bank statement to generate). I will be applying VIA post to the embassy in London - as getting there in person is difficult with me working at the moment. Just to give you an idea about myself - I am 29 years old, My one way ticket is booked to Bangkok on the 29th of June flying with Air India.

A few questions I have:

I have NOT had 5000GBP in my current account for six months as I tend not to keep my money in a current account. I have had 5000gbp in there for roughly 3 months now, by the time of applying for the VISA my bank statement should show an available balance of around 7000GBP - Will there be any problems with this? I plan to take around 30000 in baht and then transfer the remaining with a service like transferwise

After reading a post on a web it states you should have an onwards flight booked. Obviously, I only have a one way flight to Bangkok currently. Should I book another flight to a neighboring country ? and if so should this be exactly 6 months after my first entry or should it be around the date of the first 60 days expiration to show that I am not attempting to stay there permanently?

Lastly, I will be staying in an apartment owned by my fiancees father - So I will supply a letter of invitation from himself with a copy of his passport as validation - Will this suffice?

Thank you so much for any help, and I apologize again for asking so many questions.

Christopher.

Have you look here at the requirement for the METV here on the embassy website. http://thaiembassyuk.org.uk/en/types-of-visa#section2

  • Original bank statement of the applicant showing a balance of at least £5000 (for 6 months) or a print out with official stamp of the bank

They may let you by with less than 6 months but you should contact them first.

If you have a valid visa for entry a return or onward ticket is not required.

Many thanks for your reply - Yes, that is where I got the information regarding the 5000gbp from, However, I have read contrasting statements on if they will accept the 5000gbp for less than six months or not - So I wanted to ask the general consensus on this forum. I will try and give them a ring again - But I have been unsuccessful for the last few weeks in getting through.

Thanks again for your reply - good to know the onwards flight won't be an issue (yet)

There have been reports of people getting the visa with 5K in the bank less than 6 months. It's worth trying.

If you apply, and it's rejected, they will probably return the application and fee or issue you a single entry visa (SETV). That's not the end of the world as further SETV's are available from countries neighboring Thailand that could cover a 6 to 9 month stay. Even with a METV you need to leave the country every 60/90 days so it's no big deal spending a night out of the country to get a SETV.

From reading around on the internet I think this is most likely the best course of action. Many thanks for your help :).

I will have to ask an additional question here. I have been reading mixed opinions regarding onward flights for the Multi entry visa. Now, I called the embassy to ask if I need to show an onward flight for my visa application to which the lady said "YES, because you will need to go in and out of Thailand". Many people have stated that if you have a visa you do not need to show an onward flight presumably to airlines or immigration HOWEVER, it is the London Embassy that are asking for my onward flight proof. Should I be looking to buy an onward flight out of Thailand - at the end of the 6 month period ? or after the first 60 days ? I am sending my VISA by post, so I can't be there to reason in person - so it needs to be as correct as I can get it.

Many thanks,

Christopher.

According to the Embassy website you only need to provide proof of your flight to Thailand. There is no mention of an onward flight being needed.

I would ignore what you were told on the phone.

Maybe ring up another consulate such as Glasgow and ask the same question, see what they say about outward flights
