Blacklist threat to foreign NGO

Featured Replies

The Interior Ministry is keeping a close watch on groups it believes are secretly helping the CNRP and may take action against them after Sunday’s election. Ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak said some NGOs were at risk of being placed on a government blacklist.

“We will take action if we find those organisations are working to serve the opposition party,” he said. “I cannot say which NGOs but I already know who they are. We are now watching to see which NGOs and civil society organisations are working to serve the opposition party and we will take action after the commune elections.”

Mr Sopheak’s threat echoes comments made by The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its Facebook page on April 11, when it accused foreign diplomats, media and NGOs of colluding with Western governments to destabilise the kingdom and support the opposition. However, Soeung Sen Karona, of human rights group Adhoc, said NGOs worked independently and did not support any political party.

no democracy in cambodia, this is a full on dictatorship plain to see

That would include activist Cambodia citizens.

So essentially any opposition to re-election of the current regime is illegal. And the government has the right to use military force to target anyone opposed to the current regime. How is it that democratic monarchies can be so truly democratic in the Western nations and so flawed in Asia?
