UK torture charge for ex-wife of former Liberian president Taylor

 

LONDON (Reuters) - An ex-wife of former Liberian president Charles Taylor was charged by British police on Friday with four torture offences committed between 1989 and 1991 during the west African nation's civil war.

 

Agnes Reeves Taylor, 51, was arrested in east London on Thursday and police searched two properties.

 

The Metropolitan Police said she was charged with agreeing to conduct that amounts to the commission of torture.

 

She has also been charged with three counts of intentionally inflicting severe pain or suffering on an individual in the performance of her official duties.

She will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates Court on Saturday.

 

From 1989 to 2003, up to a quarter of a million people in Liberia were killed in a civil war, while thousands more were mutilated and raped.

Well done there, but given that many more torturers are probably lurking within British jurisdiction, pity we don't see more arrested.

Sadly, the worst people in the world, like Stalin, Mao and Idi Amin, to name just 3 of many, died without being brought to account.

Would you please list all or any dictators that are hiding in the UK? While you're at it, please also list the non-UK, corrupt officials and dodgy politicians who are hiding there. Thank you!

Please also do not list all the British politicians and corrupt officials - there isn't enough space here and you don't have enough years left to complete the list..........

Yes we brits are a great bunch of lads.

Absolutely sqeaky clean.

The country that meekly sent 1000's if of yugoslav freedom fighters back to tito for him to torture and execute. Men who had fought on our side to defeat the Germans.

The country that meekly acceded to partition and allowed 1000's of innocents to be knowingly slaughtered  due to enforced repatriation.

Britain may have officially overseen the transfer of power from the smith government to the black nationalist government, but in fact the Smith regime was on the verge of being defeated and only submitted to the judgement of the UK because it had no choice.
