Border police officer arrested by Thai soldiers

A Cambodian immigration police officer was arrested by military soldiers in Thailand’s Trat province on Saturday. Sovan Bunthoeun, chief of Cham Yeam International Border Checkpoint, said Second Lieutenant Leng Piseth was arrested in Trat’s Khlong Yai district. 


Lt Piseth, who worked at Poipet International Border Checkpoint, drove his personal vehicle through the Cham Yeam crossing at about 10am on Saturday.  He was arrested by Thai military regiment 182 after crossing the border. 


An immigration police officer with Cham Yeam checkpoint said  yesterday that Lt Piseth had been arrested for involvement with illegally importing vehicles from Thailand to Cambodia.  However Mr Bunthoeun said officials had been given no explanation for the arrest.
