cangolfbuilder
Hello. I went to the Thai immigration office in Kamphaeng Phet yesterday to start the process for my 1year non-o Thai spouse visa. I got 30 days at the airport last week and yesterday they gave me 60 more days and when that expires I will get my 1 year. The fact that they can not just give me my 1 year yesterday is mind boggling but for another discussion. The strange thing that happened yesterday was the officer asked my wife why I did not report to immigration when I first entered the country. She told my wife that it was now mandatory to visit an immigration office within 24 hours of arrival. The penalty being 800 baht to my mother inlaw because her name is in the blue book for my house. I have been living here while working all over the world for 12 year and this is the first I heard of this. Has anyone else come accross this yet and how was it explained to you as for proper protocol? Thanks

steve187
as others have posted, a tm30 is required by many if not all immigration offices now. this form is submitted by the owner of the house/property you live in. to obtain a one year extension ( not a visa) of stay based on being married, you will first need a non immigrant ' O ' visa, which gives a 90 day entry stamp, either issued by a consulate/embassy in another country outside Thailand, or by way of a conversion from your visa exempt entry, at a local immigration office(2000 baht) , once this visa is obtained the one year extension can be applied for, and you will have to return after the 'under consideration' period of 30 days. i do not know that you received the other day from immigration, maybe a 60 day visit Thai wife extension, 1,900 baht Edited June 7, 2017 by steve187

You can apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage if you can meet the financial requirements. You will need a 90 day non-o visa entry to apply for the extension. He might have to do it at Bangkok immigration which requires 2 trips 15 days apart to get the visa/entry stamps.
cangolfbuilder
The reason I said that the 1 year visa sould be easier to get is because in the last 10 years I have had 6 different multiple entry 1 year non-o visas. I got all of these in Singapore where the turn around time is 1 day. I went to singapore last week to get a visa but they have changed everything to online applications. I did not know this when I went. Their computers were down when I was there so I could not submit. They had no idea if it was going to be an hour, a day , or a week until it was fixed. Singapore is way too expensive to just hang around and wait so I came back to Thailand. The officer said that when my visa is up in Aug. that I have to fly out and back again. They will then give me a 1 year multiple entry non-o visa. WE asked and showed previous visas in my passport and she said I would be getting the same one. If it is only an extension then it is probably not multible entry. That does not work for me because of my work.
