People share solutions to political conflict taking into account that reconciliation is not amnesty

BANGKOK,12 June 2107 (NNT) – Feedback from the general public reflects an interest in politics, while the consensus demonstrates the public understands that reconciliation is not amnesty.

Public Relations Subcommittee President Maj. Gen. Khongcheep Tantrawanich disclosed that the reconciliation forum’s feedback mostly reflects the general public's awareness and interests in politics. The public consensus perceives that political conflicts are partly due to the differences in the ideology of political parties including a lack of understanding and fairness which are the root causes of social conflicts and instability.

Political parties should then be developed into political institutions with clear ideology, while each party should carefully recruits quality personnel to be candidates that represent the general public, he said.

Meanwhile, it is necessary to strengthen independent organizations or political institutions so that they can perform their duties with transparency, political neutrality and seriously punish corrupt politicians, taking into account that reconciliation is not amnesty, said the President of the Public Relations Subcommittee.

He went on to say that the government is committed to hearing opinions of all parties and it understands their feelings. He added that the government has ensured all positive ideas of the people would be put to work.

"Reconciliation" is accepting that the military can overthrow an elected government if they (or those they answer to ) don't like its policies.

"An amnesty" is what the military junta then grant themselves after carrying out the coup.

" Political parties should then be developed into political institutions with clear ideology, while each party should carefully recruits quality personnel to be candidates that represent the general public..."

means we will decide who can or cannot stand, should we decide to have an election. Should the wrong people emerge as winners then there will clearly be a further need for a period of "reconciliation"; see the first paragraph.

Correction:  "lack of tolerance and due process which are the root causes of social conflicts and instability".
