CHIANG MAI, 12 June 2017 (NNT) – An opinion gathering forum has been held in the northern region to collect views on amendment to National Health Insurance laws.

Some 300 people, comprised of citizens, physicians and medical executives were gathered for the forum that took place in Chiang Mai yesterday. It was the second discussion on the topic since a prior gathering in Hat Yai of Songkla province.

Attendants of the northern talk stated that representatives of the general public, including those of ethnic minorities, should be better included in consideration of the legal amendments and pointed to groups that may lack internet access as being obstructed from voicing their viewpoints. They also expressed concern that the committee reviewing the law only has 2 members representing the general public. A final suggestion was to have state purchases of medicine be done by the National Health Security Office to ensure fair pricing.

Chairman of the forum committee Warakorn Samkoses assured all in attendance that their views would be considered while reminding them that amendments are still in the review phase and could still change.

The next forum will take place in Khon Kaen province on June 17 with a session to take place in Bangkok on June 18. The committee is also taking on views through www.lawamendment.go.th.
