I am in Vientiane where I just applied for a standard 2 month tourist visa. When I filled in the visa application form I did not write the full street address of my intended address in Thailand. After submitting my tourist visa I was given a piece of paper with a number on it for when I return tomorrow to pick up my passport. I did not notice until after I left the consulate and returned to my hotel that the piece of paper had written on it "due to security reasons you must write your full street address of the visa application or your visa application will be declined".

Did I stuff up and will my visa application be decline? This is in the Vientiane consulate. I am Australian if that matters.

And as soon as you noticed that, you of course turned around and went back to the consulate and got that sorted out with the address??

No, sadly I did not. Declined?

When I initially filled in the form I Wrote BlahBlah Apartments, Chiang Mai. I did not leave the section blank. But since I did not know the exact street address I did not write "Soi 1, BlahBlah Rd" etc.

I am aware that the  embassy in Vientienne  asks for an complete address in Thailand  for  visa precessing.

Do they  require  also  an rental contract or does  an address of  an friend or relative suffice

Just a complete address

It may have been worth returning to the embassy to attempt to rectify the address section esp as Monday afternoon is normally a quite collection time - not many lodge apps on a Friday for a Monday collection.

Seems that you'll have two outcomes.

1) They will refuse to issue a visa due to insufficient info in which case you can lodge another application,

2) They will issue the visa only on the basis that you provide detailed address information upon collection.

Option 2 seems likely?

I think all of us are guessing. My own guess is that they will not be strict about the full address with most Western tourists. At worst, I expect they will ask you to provide address details on collection, but I doubt even that. Since Vientiane requires no proof of the address where you will be staying, insisting on a full false address rather than a truncated false address would appear an exercise in futility.

...so what is a good full street address of a tourist who will be touring Thailand for two months?

I'm guessing this requirement is really meant for the other types of visa applications.

I have done 4/5 renewals in Vientiene. If there are any problems with your paperwork/application you will almost never get a number to return tomorrow.

I am thinking you will be fine.Cha Cha.Good luck.

Although dont they just give you a receipt and you change that for a number the next day ?

I dont thin that they check the paper work when giving you a receipt

My last visit was March. One line, all papers checked, and corrected (i had forgotten to include a copy of my Laos visa).Issued with a number-the visa was free!!Collected visa next day.

On a side note, show your hotel the number and they  can usually estimate a time to turn up.They were accurate to 15 minutes...

From what I seen in past you should be fine, vientiene normally easy going on this stuff and use to pre check applications prior to accepting them .

Always best cross the t's and dot the i's on any paperwork related to anything thai though as what let go one day can snowball to a disaster the following day so due diligence is you best friend at having a easy time with anything paperwork and thai .

Its useful to make allways a pro forma booking for a hotel and print it out for immigration. Once you have the visa you cancel the booking.

Waste of time TBH , they never ask for proof of where you are staying

A full address written on the form is adequate

If they gave you the receipt for pick up it's highly unlikely they will decline your visa. Refusals for anything paperwork related are usually dealt with at the payment window. I think you'll be just fine.

Could you report back tomorrow and let us know the outcome ?

All good. I got the visa! Address was not mentioned, just handed over the money and then got my passport back with the sticker. I think I was lucky and I would not risk it, so I will make sure to write the full address etc next time.

I want to open an apartment complex geared toward tourists and expats with this name, if only just to mess with people.  Unfortunately, I'd also have to constantly PAY for cleaver marketing to overcome the name.
