webfact
Reconciliation ‘contract’ finalised this week By The Nation Army chief Gen Chalermchai Sitthisart BANGKOK: -- A “social contract” collating multi-party recommendations for national reconciliation is expected to be presented to Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan next Monday. Gen Chalermchai Sitthisart, the Army commander chairing a committee charged with formulating proposals to foster social harmony, said the panel would meet for the last time tomorrow (Thursday) and prepare a final report to be submitted to Prawit on Monday. Chalermchai’s committee is the last of three military-appointed panels that have worked on the reconciliation scheme since February. Major figures from all sides in the political conflict have participated in the talks, offering their views on how reconciliation might be achieved after more than a decade of deep division. Chalermchai said his committee has considered their opinions, along with those of citizens across the country, in preparing the so-called social contract. The next step remains unclear, however, with key players including politicians and political activists unwilling to endorse such a contract despite having cooperated in the process. yellowboat
There are two paths to reconciliation: 1. Fairness with regards to rule of law for everyone 2. Reconcile with yourself that point #1 is never going to happen in Thailand and look for another country to raise and educate your children. Come back to Thailand during the holidays. Trumpish
So. They don't bother to consult the people who matter, they consult those who want to be consulted and (probably) only those who support the junta. Then when it's finalised, they will try to bully people into accepting it and signing, then they will wonder why it has the reliability that most things Thai have. They really won't understand why it has no value whatever, but will trumpet it from the rooftops as though it does. They don't learn from experience and then they wonder why the world doesn't change around them. I don't. As someone else has said, it's a colossal waste of time, and the people who can do some damage to these clowns are just biding their time; they won't change either because they too are Thai and also don't learn from things that go disastrously wrong. Didn't go right last time but it's not our fault, it's someone else's fault, and it might go better next time. Same ole same ole. He already knows everything, including how to avoid accounting for having assets worth 100+ million baht on a terminating salary of 1 million baht per annum.
