The wife set herself ablaze but the Chinese husband died

A Chinese man whose wife set herself ablaze during a heated argument, leading to an apartment fire in Boeung Keng Kang II commune, has died from his injuries. Prom Yorn, chief of the Phnom Penh Municipal Fire Department, said yesterday that the man, whom he did not identify, died from his injuries on Tuesday night.

“My officials helped to send the couple to the hospital and they later said the Chinese man died in the hospital because he was seriously injured,” he said. Mr Yorn added the woman remains in hospital, in critical condition.

The fire was sparked at about 12pm on Tuesday after the woman doused herself in petrol and lit herself aflame following days of heated arguments with her husband, according to Mr Yorn. Mr Yorn also did not identify the woman, saying only that she is Vietnamese-Khmer.
