One killed in three-truck pileup in Pathum Thani
By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A truck driver was killed in Pathum Thani on Thursday morning when his vehicle rammed into the trailer of a second truck and forced it into a third.

Police said the accident happened at 9am in Tambon Klong Kwai in Sam Khoke district, approaching the Klong Kwain Bridge on the western ring road.

Pramual Phetwah-ngo, 44, the driver of a 10-wheel truck transporting sugar, died at the scene.

His vehicle had struck the rear of a trailer truck driven by Chatchawal Waed-udom, also 44. That truck in turn hit the trailer of a third truck, driven by Supoj Raikhunthod, 47.

Supoj, who was transporting carbonated drinks, was not injured, while Chatchawal suffered a minor injury to the right foot.

Sad for the family of Pramual, the driver of the 10 wheeled sugar truck in 3rd place. Luckily those he tailgated are not apparently seriously injured. I hope the carbonated drinks maintained their pressure. No doubt they were sugar free.

As others have commented, usual convoy mentality, no space for error if the lead guy hits the brakes.

Just now, YetAnother said:

what was the cause ?

I would suggest it was caused by the 3rd truck not maintaining enough space between his and truck #2. Truck #3 shunted truck #2 into the rear of truck #1. Boom boom.
