rooster59
Phuket officials exasperated over dumping in Karon Shela Riva PHUKET: The chief of Karon Municipality’s Public Health division has told The Phuket News that her office is fed up with the constant stream of rubbish being dumped in the area, specifically on the backroad of Patak Soi 14. “We don’t know what else to do about it. We are already trying to send trucks to clean up the area every evening, Monday to Saturday,” Karon health chief Satitha Jitmet told The Phuket News today. “It is difficult to patrol because it is a secluded area and away from the main road,” she added. The saga began earlier this month when local residents grew weary of the growing pile of rubbish dumped at the site, in the hills away from the beach. Mooner
“It is difficult to patrol because it is a secluded area and away from the main road,” she added Im sure a 300 baht a day worker is cheaper than the cost to remove the constant rubbish. Also the employee could take number plates and they can send out fines.
Pattaya28
Why does this happen ? Because it can. Anything that people can do without penalties, people will do. People are lazy. They don't care about the environment. Easy dump than take to a designated area for waste.
Valentine
Where are the designated areas for waste or are there only municipal trash bins? Can you go to the incinerator & drop off there & do they accept all kinds of waste? Is there a fee?
300sd
Amazing! These same pigs must be dumping garbage where I live also.

Valentine
The last photo looks like construction debris. Usually a lot of it ends up as fill in your garden. There is usually nowhere to dump construction debris unless you know of a piece of land where the owner is looking for landfill.

Redline
A pitiful example of the hopelessness of any enforcement in Thailand. They can't even enforce a problem that happens everyday at the same time! Absolutely nothing can get resolved, and in that light, Thailand is doomed.
Psimbo
Unfortunately this leads to more and more barbed wire being laid in order to keep people off land. Fly tipping is a disgrace. Some beautiful areas of the island are trashed on a regular basis.
Elkski
But they know better as you never see trash in rice patties
Stargeezr
Mount some cameras with movement sensors on each end of the road and record who is using the road, Check the camera each morning after checking the area affected, if debris has been left find out what vehicle look like they had trash in the back, Likely a pickup and go after the owners. I know this method works as it was done in the Yukon and locals were surprised who was doing the dumping.; Geezer
keeniau96
Illegal dumping in Phuket has a 1000 baht fine. The problem is only the police can catch and enforce that reg and they don't bother. I know this one well because such dump started at the end of our little hillside soi that used to be nice green strip but now looks like those photos above. Talked to the amphur officials and they will send trucks to pick up (we agreed to provide "incentive"). So maybe they will clean up but what happens afterward ... we alreaady know the inevitable. Problem is I do not know of any public legal dump in Phuket.

This is not a secluded road. It is in a tourist city on the coast. Close to the police station, Big C. and the main traffic lights on Phetchakasem, all within a two minute drive. We know this goes on everywhere in Thailand. The pigs are everywhere and we know who are not doing their jobs everywhere. These ones who do not do their jobs, in my humble opinion, are the scourge of Thailand.
