SONGKHLA: -- A Thai oil tanker attacked by pirates on Friday arrived in the southern Songkhla province on Sunday after 1.5 million litres of diesel fuel was stolen, officials said.

The ship was loaded with 3.8 million litres of diesel when it was reportedly attacked by six armed men near Malaysia’s Kuantan municipality while heading from Singapore to Songkhla.

The men, who spoke Bahasa, were equipped with guns and knives and entered the vessel, capturing the captain and crew members as well as destroying communications equipment before pumping 1.5 million litres of fuel into their ship and fleeing.

The captain and crew were safe and Thai authorities had been informed about the incident on Saturday night, hours before the tanker arrived in Songkhla, according to officials.

C&P Group, owner and manager of the vessel, is investigating the incident in cooperation with six agencies.

GPS  not equipped on these ships  so when they stop for this kind of thing, alarms may go off

somewhere , don't the shipping industry make enough profits to have some kind of system to

help against pirates these days?   It does sound a lot suspicious to me as well.

Geezer

more like the captain and crew were well compensated for their donation to the "pirates", a very easy way to make some extra money with no way to really check the story

you HAVE lived here a while, haven't you? :post-4641-1156694572:

In such stories, one can never know who is speaking true, who is corrupt and so on....

Most supertankers on routes off Somalian waters have groups of armed guards on board, than plainly open fire when attacked on international waters....seems like the best alternative!

1.5 Million litres. Stolen by 6 men. Communications damaged after the vessel was boarded.

The time it must have took to pump that amount. Something smells if you ask me.

ya think??? :post-4641-1156694572:    you think that's fishy, wait until you see how fast this news drops off the radar never to be heard about again...
