Where for Trekking/Mountain bike in Thailand (no Chiang Mai)

Hi guys,

Can you recommend any places where I could spend 3 days while having options of doing something active during day ?

By active, I mean full-day trek from morning till night or a 2-day trek. I'd also be happy to rent a decent mountain bike and ride around jungle/hills/open terrain.

I've been to Chiang Mai twice in last few months and I'd like to explore something (not in the north). I'm trying to do some research, but I have troubles finding anything.

Help much appreciated !

Matt

Phu Kradung National Park, Loei. Probably closing for the rainy season soon, check that before going there. A steep climb up a mountain for about 4 hours. It can be done as a day trip. For a "base camp" use Chumphae, Khon Kaen. It is closer to the mountain, and closer to Bangkok, than is Loei city.

If you are really into mountain biking, there's a group that goes out every month, based in Bangkok, but the trips are all located within a few hours of there.  Some great rides and some great people.

I don't know how much this will help you but every Thursday in the Bangkok Post "Life" section  they have a article on biking around Thailand called "Freewheel" where they highlight different bike trips around Thailand.    This week, today, they are featuring a trip to Chiang Rai.
