Passport price list aims to foil scammers

Featured Replies

The Interior Ministry is publicising an official price list for passport services in a bid to stop unscrupulous brokers or recruitment firms exploiting workers in the wake of beefed-up illegal labour controls in Thailand. According to a statement from the General Department of Identification, the standard price of a passport is $100, which takes 20 days to process. The cost is $150 for those who want the document in 10 days and $200 for processing within one day.

For legal overseas workers travelling abroad and registered with the Ministry of Labour, passports are provided free of charge. The announcement called on workers who want to work abroad with recognition from the ministry to can contact government passport departments in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey province.

“The public should contact these departments directly to get accurate information and avoid wasting their money and time,” the statement said. GDI spokesman Tob Neth said officials are publicising the information to protect workers returning from Thailand to obtain valid work documents.
