I will be having a child with my Thai girlfriend this December. While this was an accident, it is not unfortunate or unwanted. Both my girlfriend and I make good money for living in Thailand and she and I are both stable in finances and in the mental and physical sense. All in all, we are excited and welcoming of our new child.

My question is, I am currently in the United State for three weeks after being in Thailand for almost two years, I return in August. At the moment, I am trying to figure out my visa situation for the next six months until the little one is born and more secure and long-term options become available. I was looking into the METV but the seven thousand dollar requirement is quite prohibitive (seriously that's as much as the freaking Elite visa scheme almost). I don't know how strict the Washinton embassy is on this requirement, I am paid monthly and it is an extremely comfortable salary for Thailand, even once the baby comes. So what have other people done in this situation? Any help would be much appreciated.

Being unmarried leaves you with very few options which involve tourist visas, securing work and a "B" visa+work permit or an education visa which involves signing up with a school.

Once the baby is born your situation will not greatly improve unless you legitimise your parenthood.

You should atleast get a single entry tourist visa before starting your trip. Then get another one at a nearby embassy or consulate.

The consulates in New York, Chicago and Los Angles have the same requirement for the METV as the embassy.

The embassy in DC is not the only place you can apply for the single entry tourist visa. You could get it from one of these honorary consulates. http://thaiembdc.org/royal-thai-honorary-consulates-general-in-the-u-s/

After your child is born you could start out by getting a single entry non-o visa and then a 60 day extension at immigration to visit them that would allow a total stay of 5 months without needing another visa.

Unless you marry your child's mother you will need to legitimize your parenthood to get a one year extension at immigration.

Just confirming 100% correct.

To add, legitimising your parenthood could take time - kinda depends on your local family court. I ended up with non o + 60 day extension + 1 year.

What did you do to stay here for the last two years?

Sorry I've been busy making wedding plans. Not quite two years but I was on the Muay Thai visa for nine months and then some tourist visas to continue Muay Thai training. Very good visa if you are interested in the training and quite reasonable cost. But now that the little one is coming I need to make sure things are more stable for my family.
