I recently placed an order for books with Kinokuniya Book Store in Bangkok for delivery to my PO Box.

I live about 50km south of Khon Kaen.

I used my PO Box address rather than my home address as it is out of town, difficult to find

and I do not speak Thai.

I also used my PO Box as I could arrange to collect when convenient, especially as I am partially wheelchair bound

for the next couple of months.

The bookstore uses a courier service.

When they tried to deliver at the post office the post office refused to accept due to

the "post office policy of competition service" ( their words ).

I thought the Post Office now was jointly owned by government and another operator.

Two things come to mind:

1) Why didn't Kinokuniya and their courier service already know this was the PO policy and when I placed

the order advise me of this and ask for an alternative address ???

2) Whose policy is it ?   Isn't this a restrictive practice policy - at least in Western terms ???

The placement of the order, speed of completion and delivery within 48 hours was very good,

shame they messed up on something they should have known.   So others beware.

You are applying logic, rarely present in many Thai systems. Just because one Post Office wont doesnt neccesarily mean ALL Post Offices wont.

Just ask anyone whos tried to open a bank account, been refused at one branch and opened at another. Consistency is rare and definitely not the norm.

Just one of the many instances that makes Thailand what it is.

A PO box is an alternative delivery address for the post office, for mail that is paid for and sent through the post office network.

It is not a company such as Mail Box Express that receives items from any carrier on your behalf.

This is the same in most countries.
