webfact
Lawyer and 'accomplice' arrested for alleged Bt4-m swindle of disabled teen By The Nation File photo BANGKOK: -- Police have arrested former lawyer Pisit Sammalert and a woman in Bangkok over their alleged roles in cheating a 14-year-old road accident victim out of Bt4 million in compensation. Pisit and Thitapa, or Pattharawadee Sawasdee, were nabbed on Sunday night at the parking lot of condominium in Soi Ram-Indra 125 in Bangkok's Min Buri district. The Taling Chan provincial court had earlier issued arrest warrants for the duo, along with another alleged female accomplice, Pornpaveen Chukaew. Pasit and Pornpaveen are accused of using a forged document to cheat Pasit's pro-bono client Porntip Chantharat, 44, and her wheelchair-bound 14-year-old daughter, Pattarada “Beam” Kaewpong, out of Bt4 million in compensation following a 2005 road accident. Thitapa was accused of aiding and abetting the wrongdoing. When reports of the alleged swindle surfaced, the Lawyers Council of Thailand stripped Pisit from its list of qualified practitioners on ground that he was declared insolvent. CelticBhoy
I really hope they throw the book at this so-called lawyer. That little girl needs all the help she can get, and 4 million Baht plus interest should go a long way for her and her mum.
Samui Bodoh
Throw them in the worst jail there is, with the worst criminals that Thailand has to offer! They are the lowest of the low.
z42
String him up by his nutsack and make his prison stay as squalid and lengthly as possible. Vermin like this deserve the most medieval of punishments. Seriously hope the prosecutors don't bottle it and allow these idiots bail.. Every last satang should go to that poor young kid whose money they stole.. Utter scum ?

darksidedog
From the moment the story first broke, I was concerned about the lawyers whereabouts. I am seriously happy that he has been found and arrested, which shows the BIB can find people when they want to. Now I hope they nail this low life scumbag. Stealing money from a disabled child is a really sick thing to do, and I hope the courts will agree and give him a very long time behind bars to reflect on his evil acts, as well as taking whatever he has to give the girl and her mum, what is rightfully theirs. midas
" the Lawyers Council of Thailand stripped Pisit from its list of qualified practitioners on ground that he was declared insolvent." In most civilised countries you would lose your right to practice law just for committing a crime -never mind if you are declared insolvent or not. People like this who attribute more importance to money than their morals and conscience are obviously on a different wavelength to most decent people. But I just would be curious to know what they intended to do with these ill gotten gains just to get an insight into how delusional these kinds of people are. meatboy
once again you must ask yourselves how can a co.pay that much compensation to victims WITHOUT the victims and the police not present,to witness case closed.
JAG
once again you must ask yourselves how can a co.pay that much compensation to victims WITHOUT the victims and the police not present,to witness case closed. It's probably quite a good thing that the police were not present. It's a lot of money, and the "incidental expenses to be covered" would have been considerable.
4MyEgo
Perhaps the laws should be tightened up to not allow solicitors to take such moneys on behalf of the client unless the government was prepared to back it up, as they do back in Aus, i.e. someone skips with trust monies, the government has to pay it, they get the money earned from the interest in the bank which holds the trust accounts, hence why trust accounts do not earn interest, it goes to the government for such a-holes who skip with the trust funds, real estate agents included. Throw the book at them and give some compensation to the girl if he has no assets, or start a tea-money fund for a month, that should cover it, easily ! He hasnt been found guilty yet. Debarring him for insolvency seems like a convenient alternative in the meantime.

Presumably, he spent the money on something. He was arrested in the parking lot of a condominium, e.g. Asset seizure and sale perhaps?

It has probably been spent, hidden away, or conveniently 'transferred'! What the Lawyers Council Of Thailand could do is to recompense the girl and her mother the Bt4m that their colleague has stolen, as a show of good faith. thaifan01
Anyone know if there is any fundraising going on to help this girl making her life easier? Please let me know, I would be happy to contribute if its anything (serious of course) going on.
