Mine casualties drop by a third

Casualties from landmines and unexploded ordnances decreased 37 percent in the first six months of this year in comparison with the same period in 2016, according to a report from the Cambodian Mine Action Authority. The CMAA report, released yesterday, said there were 32 casualties from January to June this year, compared with 51 in the same period last year.

 

The report went on to say the 32 casualties were the result of 23 accidents relating to landmines and unexploded ordnances. This figure represents a 50 percent drop in incidents, compared to the 46 accidents reported during the same period in 2016. “Six people were killed, 16 people were injured and another ten people were amputated,” the report said, adding that 22 casualties were men, eight were boys and two were women. The report stated that from 1979 to June this year, a total of 64,694 casualties were recorded by the Cambodia Mine/Explosive Remnants of War Victim Information System.

Google Cambodia....that should narrow it down a bit. Better still google the secret war in Cambodia with the USA and USSR dropping mines. I recall some were described as looking like parrots. What kid wouldn't grab one of them........
