Holidays without rain ?

Featured Replies

Hi there

was looking for some ideas of places to go on holiday, that is not having rainy season

needs to be reasonable prices for flights and things, not long haul, unless cheap and no visas needed for Thai lady

was thinking of short break in somewhere like Hong Kong, then maybe a week somewhere like Phuket

want a city break somewhere different and then alonger seaside break

any ideas would be welcome

What time of year?  Hong Kong and Phuket hardly qualify as not having rainy seasons (or cheap for that matter).

My experience of Phuket is that it rains every day, all year.

Perhaps an indication of when the OP wants to travel would be helpful?

Sorry about that
Forgot to give any dates
Was looking at going mid to late September, during the school holidays here
Have found a couple of deals for Singapore, but that would be only for a few days, not a lover of long time in cities
But would like at least a week somewhere warm and with a beach and sea, but either no rain, or not much
Don't want to be stuck in a bar all day or dragging umbrellas about
But thanks for the replies anyway

Bali?

Cyprus?

It's Rainy season in Thailand.

I am not a mathematician , a Rhoades scholar, a MENSA member, or a genius.

Rainy season means RAIN, and we are having a good rainy season.

Look up your individual Thailand destinations you want to visit on WIKIPEDIA, go to CLIMATE. CLIMATE will tell you average number of rainy days for each month.

You could consider Pattaya or nearby. We get much less rain here than most other parts of Thailand, and when it does rain it's usually late in the day and usually in the form of thunderstorms that only last an hour or so.

It's rare for it rain all day here.

No long haul, visa free (or visa on arrival) for Thais, no rainy season?

Not easy. All the neighbors in the northern hemisphere seem to have rainy season.

Bali looks good from statistics.

How long have or had you lived there?

End of September is a poor time to visit the Andaman coast , awful lot of rain generally , so Phuket/Krabi are out. I would suggest Ko Samui or Songkhla at that time of year.

Thailand has different rainy seasons.

The Andaman sea has it right now because of the western monsoon, here on Samui we have it in November when the eastern monsoon kicks in.

Average rainfall Phuket.

Average rainfall Samui.

To the OP, Samui is going to be sunny during your vacation.

There are two daily direct flights from Hong Kong to Samui.

Caribean coast Mexico, Cancun, Playa de Carmen, Escondido

Agreed. I live on the edge of Phoemix Golf course and we've had no rain for ages. Seem to have our own micro climate here.

A bit of rain would be quite welcome.

I haven't. But every time I have been there it has always rained every day. My experience, as I mentioned.

And the weather statistics (number of wet days and total amount of rain) back up my feeling that Pattaya is much drier.

Take the family on a Gold Panning/Camping trip to Alaska. Land of the mid-night sun. :)

Thanks for the replies
Sounds like Koh Samui is the best place in September that is close and maybe have very little rain
Quick flights from Bangkok so nice, even if a bit expensive for a 1 hour flight
Most other places seem to have the rainy season,
So any other option would involve a much longer and much more expensive flights and hotels
Maybe I go to Koh Samui this time, and look for other places around Xmas or new year holidays

Just to say thanks to all who replied
Went to Koh Samui, had a good time
Only rained one evening,
Never seen an airport that gives free snacks and drinks while waiting to depart , or the theme park type busses to the planes
Ended up a lot of nights in the Doghouse bar, playing pool and darts
Wil be back next year, so thanks again

It doesn't rain every day in Phuket, all year. It rains a lot in the rainy season, but not every day as well.
