PATTAYA: -- There was a carnival atmosphere on Pattaya beach yesterday as deck chair and massage operators joined forces to clear up the mess.

They unfurled banners from their associations and heard an inspiring call to arms from local dignitary Saetthaphon Bunsawat who had a microphone and a hat.

He directed operations as the volunteers moved out from the Central Pattaya intersection in search of trash both visible and buried. A backhoe and tractor with rake were also on hand as the beach was restored to some of its pristine glory under blue skies.

Siamchon news also reported in a related article that contractors who will be adding much needed sand to the resort's beaches have now been given the go ahead by provincial authorities.

Work to add sand will take place over the next 6-8 months. It was delayed due to sourcing problems but is now proceeded according to regulations, the news media reported.

if we clean up our mess from the beach, will we get our pitch back for the high season to come

Good to see something happening on the beach, but I would like to know how they are going to sift all of the shit out of the water and that is the serious problem.

All the way back to 1950?

The local dignitary had a hat and a microphone .! What were they doing a bit if kari'oke at the same time .?

Beach groomers that are towed behind a tractor do a great job....clean everything....Pattaya should get at least one....and not expensive.

The local authorities are so blatantly stupid...everywhere!

They do have 1 (maybe only 1)

My thoughts also, picking up the dead fish that has been washed up is fine but the waters are still heavily polluted and poisonous

Oceans will cleanse themselves over time with one crucial requirement .. They stop tipping anymore s**t into them .. And whadya reckon the chances of that ( not ) happening are .? The whole drainage system here is fundametally flawed as heavy rain demonstrates ( and has done for years ) leading to effluent being dumped into the bay and until that is addressed the unfurling of the banners will be a regular occurence as the sea will continue to regurgitate what is put into it ..

Some beaches in Spain are cleaned every 24 hours.  It's called pulling in the tourists.  This could become a regular feature of Pattaya's social calendar; August 2nd now known as Beach Carnival Day.

From the article it seems likely the one was brought in for this special occasion.
One or more on permanent duty would make a huge difference.

one-time cleanup is not sustainability

I clean up in my local area every week , 2-3 hours is enough. If everyone do this there would be no more trashy beaches.

Might be best to avoid using the term " beach groomers " in a place like this .. You know how people tend to get the wrong end of the stick hearing the word groom .. :post-4641-1156694606:

No, these attributes were proof of his dignified status.

A lot of 'em then appear to have been " dignified " judging by the number wearing hats .. Maybe they all get a go on the mic' throughout the day ..

I thought maybe the hat was for passing around for brown envelopes that we're "found"..

I have lived on the East coast of Fl. Most county beaches are cleaned even morning at sunrise

Bandaid on shark bite !
