Police to monitor PAD’s Friday meeting

BANGKOK: -- Police are closely watching the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) following Wednesday’s dismissal of ex-PM Somchai Wongsawat, his deputy, and former police officials in regard to actions taken to disperse a 2008 PAD protest.

The operation in front of the Parliament left two protesters dead and 471 injured.

 

The verdict has angered yellow-shirt leaders, who called on the National Anti-Corruption Commission to appeal the acquittal.

 

Deputy PM and Defence Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwat said on Friday that he has assigned police to monitor the PAD’s possible gathering this afternoon.

 

Prawit also warned that any political gathering of five or more people would risk breaking the junta order.

 

Another Pheu Thai ex-PM, Yingluck Shinawatra, will hear a final verdict on August 25 over charges related to her former government’s rice-pledging scheme. Prawit said that a mass gathering to support Yingluck would possibly occur and authorities expect to be able to keep the situation under control.

One must recognise that the old elite faction is good at orchestrating (in case it was necessary to confirm after the coup). This one is a masterpiece!

- acquit Prawit's brother among other people who probably should not have been indicted, including a famous PPT politician (who was far from operational command in this case) and another who had resigned before the events

- pretend to be neutral by causing anger from yellow shirts

- I would not be surprised either that they would also pretend to repress the yellow shirts' meetings in preparation of repression of next red shirts's gatherings.

 

Perfect timing after dismissing sedition charges against PAD leaders, as well as reducing their penalty for assaulting the government building, and of course  before the verdict on YL. Hats down!

I read this morning that the PAD claimed it was not a political meeting, that is, not aimed at the government, but was a meeting to decide what to do next. Far be if from me to make any judgement but what came to mind was that if the 'yellows' can do do it will the 'reds' try?
