Official site for Thai immigration

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

What is the official site for information regarding Thai visas & Exempt entries? Friend holds a passport from Fiji and wants to visit. He's confused about whether or not he can get a visa on arrival.

  1. Wikipedia at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_Thailand says Fiji can get 15 days VOA
  2. Cited link from Wikipedia does not mention Fiji at all http://www.consular.go.th/main/contents/files/customize-20160211-172258-195471.pdf
  3. This Thai official website is most useless of all saying only how many countries can get Visa exempt entry, but not which ones https://www.immigration.go.th/faq_detail?id=58a406b6dda4405134681673

Threads on tripadvisor regarding same issue are unanswered. Can anyone point to most up to date source on this? Would truly appreciate

Much thanks,

Matt

Not he cannot. See: http://www.consular.go.th/main/th/customize/62281-Summary-of-Countries-and-Territories-entitled-for.html

He will need to get a visa from a embassy or consulate before arrival.

I saw this one as well too, but was searching for more since Fiji seemed to have been there before (according to Wiki)

Which source link is correct?

Ubon Joe's link has 19 countries, Here2008 has 28 countries.

Thanks guys!

Wiki (Not the most reliable source of information) seems to be in error.

Ok, so Ubon Joe's link is correct.

Info on Thai Embassy in KL is wrong too, as it lists 28 countries. I thought it's easier.

Thanks again

Wiki is actually usually pretty accurate on most issues. I think someone misinterpreted the announcement on the visa incentive program (countries receiving free visas) with the visa on arrival countries. As of late 2016, the information on the Wikipedia page was correct, but someone read reduced price for visa on arrival for visa incentive program countries as implying all those countries were eligible for visa on arrival. That was how Fiji (and Papua New Guinea) ended up erroneously being added.

What do you mean by "All those countries"? I have not seen Fiji mentioned anywhere in any of Wiki sources. I wasn't digging much myself, but it seems that they were not part of the countries with reduced visa fee http://www.phuketgazette.net/thailand-news/Thailand-visa-fees-be-reduced-B1000/65901

I believe they were relying on this TAT announcement: http://www.tatnews.org/thailand-extends-visa-fee-waiver-scheme-tourists-21-countries/

It should be noted that the Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_Thailand has been updated with an additional source (website of Royal Thai Embassy Singapore) that claims Fiji and Papua New Guinea were added to visa on arrival countries effective 30 December 2016 (see https://www.thaiembassy.sg/visa-matters-/-consular/visa-on-arrival). That Singapore source has several other inaccuracies, but I guess the explicit claim of a change last December could be true, especially as the countries were included in the visa incentive program announcement. The MFA page cannot be regarded as completely reliable based on prior experience. What is the best way to answer this once and for all?

After digging around the department of consular affairs website I have found that Fiji and Papua New Guinea were added to the list on 30 December 2016.

See: http://www.consular.go.th/main/th/services/1287/19767-รายชื่อประเทศที่สามารถขอรับการตรวจลงตรา-ณ-ช่องทางอ.html

It is mostly in Thai but Google translate does a good job on it.

Based on @ubonjoe's post above, I guess we owe the Wikipedia editors an apology. They were able to post correct information when almost everyone else was wrong.

Thanks UbonJoe & BrtiTim! I guess Singaporean Thai Embassy also does a pretty good job on following visa news.

English language version of the same site is outdated then http://www.consular.go.th/main/th/customize/62281-Summary-of-Countries-and-Territories-entitled-for.html even though it's been more than half a year between 10th February 2016, and December 30th 2016. Bit scary they're not changing the English version. Oh well.

Thanks again! Friend will have an easier time then
