Husband’s makeshift devices help stroke victim’s recovery

A 60-year-old Ubon Ratchathani man has built devices from recycled materials to aid his stroke-victim wife’s recovery until she can walk again.

Bicycle repairman Chantha Saenthaweesuk, a resident of Tambon Phibun in Phibun Mangsahan district, said that his wife Boonlai, also 60, had suffered a thrombotic stroke and severe muscle weakness last year.

She spent five days in Phibun Mangsahan Hospital before being released to recover at home. Chantha said that doctors instructed him to help her in her regular physical therapy, so he did. And he refused to let the couple’s modest financial situation get in the way.

In the hope that Boonlai would rapidly regain strength in her arms and legs, Chantha decided to build some makeshift rehabilitation devices for her, including a stationary exercise bike and a two-seated vehicle adapted from a bicycle.

“In the past nine months, my wife has used these devices and her condition is improving,” he said.

“From being bed-ridden and unable to walk, she can now walk and is starting to talk. I’m glad that my creations are helping her to get well.”

Chantha added that people should feel free to apply his ideas for their personal use.

OUTSTANDING..

The Thais I am fortunate enough to deal with are patient and do not give up on things, like this man.

What a guy!  Good spirits, inventive, caring, clever idea.

Well done that man, that is true love trying to help his wife recover.

Pleased to see this, they are my Mother and Father in Law! He is currently working on new devices and has had some orders to make some for other people.
