I have a couple of questions I would be very grateful for answers from those who know.

I am currently on a 1 year extension of stay based upon working as a Teacher with an original Non B visa.  In October I am leaving my job and will require a new visa.  I have researched all various options and I satisfy all the criteria to obtain a retirement visa ( based on monthly income from my house rental in the UK).  I will be returning to the UK in October for a visit so using the embassy in London could be a good option to obtain an O-A visa.

Question 1

Could I use a Doctor here in Thailand to provide the medical certificate required or must it be my UK doctor ( 250 baht here (used the same Dr for teaching health certificate) or I have been quoted £100 by my Dr plus all the time hassle of being tested for all the conditions listed on form).

Question 2

Would 3 months bank statements showing rental income every month be sufficient documentation for the embassy as proof of income?  If not what additional documents do they require?

Question 3

Can I just apply for a retirement extension with correct paperwork here in Phuket the same day as I cancel the work extension of stay?

thanks for your help.

1. The embassy website does not specify where it can be from. Best to contact them to find out what they will accept.

2. From embassy website. "or an income certificate with monthly income of not less than 65,000 Baht, (approximately £18,000.00 / annum)"

3. You change the reason for your extension of stay to retirement on the date you cancel your current extension.

Hello
I did my retirement visa in London in April and can offer the following info.
1) I used the medical cert on the website and went to the Bangkok hospital in udon and had it done officially. I know some say a clinic will do it on the cheap etc but I decided for peace of mind to go this route. They did all the sets required and it cost me around 2500 baht and the best part of a day in and out. Money well spend I think.
2) I used bank statements and wage slips as well as P60. asmy evidence and they were fine.

The whole experience was less daunting than expected but I went prepared and followed advice on this forum. It took longer to get everything together than actually process it.
Hope that helps.

Thank you. I think the easiest option then is to try and change here in Phuket.. avoids some extra paperwork, and cost.

I saw the info on the website but am still unclear as to what constitutes "an income certificate ". I know I can get the letter from the UK embassy in Bangkok, using the bank statements. Wasn't sure about doing it in London.

In your situation and providing you have the financial proof, I'd consider getting a TV from back in the UK, then doing a conversion to an extension of stay based on retirement back in Thailand.

Just saying, it's another option to consider depending on your circumstances.

Why go through all of that effort when he can easily apply for an extension based upon retirement when his current extension is canceled.

Because the OP stated he will be returning to the UK for a visit when his current extension expires, so he may not have time to apply for the extension at that time. Depends on his itinerary and timing.

I threw it in as another option to consider.

It only takes a few hours at the most to apply for the new extension after his current one is canceled. Then a re-entry permit for his trip.

He apparently will be using the income option so he could send  the application for a income letter from UK embassy a month or more in advance.

The OP stated he had an original Non B Visa, not an extension.

He stated he had explored the options and would need a new Visa.

He wrote this in the OP.

Rather confusing statements from the OP then.

Does he have a Non B Visa which will expire, or an extension which will be cancelled.

All replies have been helpful. If paperwork can be in place in time then I'll swap extensions at Phuket. If not getting a SETV is a good option if I want to avoid some the extra paperwork and cost associated with getting OA in London . I tried to be as clear as possible about my situation, sorry if it caused people to argue (happens far too often here). I did state I was on an extension of stay based on working (original visa was a B visa, which expired 3 months after I got it last year)
