Non O multiple and divorce

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I would like to know what would happen to a non o multiple entry visa based on Thai wife if I was to get divorced!

Thanks in advance.

Nothing. The visa is good to be used for entries until on or before the 'enter before' date printed on the visa.

Really because I was under the impression once the marriage is annulled or dissolved that the Visa becomes invalid immediately

Extensions of stay (which are not visas) are invalid once the divorce is finalised.

I've entered twice this year on a non-O marriage after divorce in December last year.  No problems.

Seems thats the norm Non O is valid untill the end date on it. However i know of a guy who triedvto do the right thing and went to ask immigration. Who promptly annuled his Non O on the spot and gave him 7 days to leave the country. He asked if he could get an extension of stay based on retirement. Was told he would have to get a new Non O or a Visa exempt or TV and start again. Moral dont tell immigration anything.

I would say that the moral would be to simply apply for an extension based on retirement, "because of easier paperwork," and watch how fast Immigration officials agree and happily process it - so glad they don't have to do a more complex marriage-extension.

Thats what he did problem was he told the officer he was divorced first. So the moral is only tell immigration what you want them to know. I guess your getting a bit confused as to what i wrote

Not confused at all - we reached the same conclusion.

Yes in the end after first having to leave the country ang getting a TV. Then starting the processes all over again. If he would have just waited untill 30 days before his current at the time permision to stay on his non o came, then went to immigration for an extension of stay based on retirement and not mentioned his divorce (or even had another IO who knew the score) life would have been a dam sight easier for him
