About 4,500 observers will be deployed for this year’s National Exam to prevent cheating and to continue reforms to the Education Ministry, the Anti-Corruption Unit said yesterday. The ACU yesterday held a meeting with observers in Phnom Penh to instruct them on their duties for the Grade 12 high school exam, set for August 21 and 22.

ACU president Om Yentieng said there will be about 4,500 observers this year, compared with 5,676 last year who found 45 cases of attempted cheating. “Our observers have been properly trained on what to look for and what to do to ensure a quality and fair exam,” said Mr Yentieng.

“The observers are ready to work and strictly administer the rules to help the Education Ministry improve its quality.” Education Minister Hang Choun Naron, who also attended yesterday’s meeting, said exam observers were key to his reform of the ministry.
