ID Question to Checkin for Flight

Featured Replies

Hi all.  Here is an odd question.  My passport is with Immigration for 2 days to process my work permit.  But, of course, in the meantime I need to fly down to Phuket for a meeting.  Can I check into the airline using either my expired US passport or another form of non Thai gov't ID - drivers license, etc?

Yes but have some corroborating info like a credit or debit card with same name.

Expired passport should work if the photo page is clearly readable/not "damaged".

Although it is wise to have photocopies of the valid passport additionally.

Will you stay overnight/check in at hotel?

I've used my Texas driver's license and my temporary Thai drivers license in the past.  Passports are not required to fly domestic.

If you have a Thai licence you can use that to fly anywhere within Thailand...no passport needed...I used to use my Thai licence all the time.

Not a great help to the OP this time but I always carry a copy of my PP when in Thailand and also a  scan of it on my phone. I advise every foreigner living or traveling in Thailand to do that anyway and I have used such a copy in the past with Thai Airways and Air Asia.

What might help is that last time I flew internally in Thailand was with Nok Air. I presented the e-ticket on my phone at Loei airport-no other ID requested.

"My passport is with Immigration for 2 days to process my work permit."

Immigration doesn't process work permits.
