Phuket Prison declared ‘White’ following official inspection

PHUKET: -- Police and army officers declared Phuket Provincial Prison a ‘white prison’ after carrying out an official inspection of the facilities dormitories and conducting random urine tests on inmates yesterday afternoon.

 

Phuket Vice Governor Mr Teera Anantaseriwidhya led the inspection at about 5pm yesterday (Aug 17) along with Department of 25 Royal Thai Police Maj Surasak Pungyaem, and over 80 officers and police officers, who conducted drug searches on inmates’ bodies, in dormitories as well as urine tests on 200 randomly selected males and 200 randomly selected females.

 

The prison currently detains 2,132 male inmates, 398 female inmates, 217 foreign male inmates, 13 foreign female inmates, and three babies aged two, four and six months, as well as three pregnant inmates.

Wow ... that a lot lot more foreign inmates that I would have thought. But on reflection I wonder how many are 'western' people and how many ASEAN counties.

Black or white, I would never like to end up in any jail...above all a jail in Thailand!!

The Gov of this prison has always had a good reputation for being progressive- nice to see some good news for a change.

 

Managing an overcrowded place like that cannot be easy.

Riles me to see little kids in there. So much money spent on Military toys that could be spent on social care. 

 

Always harping on about image and reputation when the real disgrace is staring them in the face

Of course it's 'white'... do you think the new governor is going to have it painted as 'black' while under his rule / control.... the answer is NO!!! 

 

"The prison currently detains 2,132 male inmates, 398 female inmates, 217 foreign male inmates, 13 foreign female inmates" - the Vice Gov then went onto say there was definitely no problem with crime on Phuket, and then also declared the whole of Phuket to be "white."  .

Babies are trapped in prison with mother......? For how long?
