topfield
Like it or not..accept it or not....the staff at the Embassy are making mistakes at a totally unacceptable frequency and of an increasing level of seriousness.. On a BBC documentary some years ago ( a copy of which I have ) about the Embassy, one of the ECO'S whose name was Marie Louise Childs revealed that entrants to the FCO sit an FCO civil service exam. Those that pass are given diplomatic postings. Those that fail...and that included Miss Childs's herself...were given postings as ECOs !! One can draw ones own conclusions about this. As mentioned earlier in the year an EU family permit was turned down without explanation. This matter is now in the hands of the EU commission as such refusals if unjustified are unlawful. In fact the Embassy granting the visa on EU request had the audacity to deny they had even issued a refusal when approached by the EU. The refusal notice speaks for itself and is now in the EU Commissions hand's and being investigated.. A second case was mentioned where a settlement visa was issued to a couple just a few months after the couple delivered a thick file in support of a visitors visa showing no intention whatsoever to settle in the UK. The settlement visa was granted immediately and the totally contradictory evidence not even questioned ! The most recent case involves the Embassy , backed up by the ECM refusing to accept an Amphur divorce saying they are not recognised in the UK. Pleased to report the Registrar of Marriages is in the process of issuing a Certificate of No Impediment. Once issued and sent to the Embassy there will be a lot of red faces there but don't bet on an apology. The Embasy never admit publicly to their numerous mistakes. IMPORTANT NOTE for BKKAndrew : Statement by ECO Marie Louse Childs in BBC documentary is NOT a comment by the writer but a direct quotation . Any criticism should be levelled against the ECO concerned, the Embassy who approved the program and the BBC

Always on temp contract, as the "perminent" staff were always the ones that got the job (oh yes, anyone can apply). The irony was that she was the PA to a director, who made hiring decisions, so she actually prepared the files for applicants, which were clearly marked as n/p for non-perminent, i.e. to be rejected and for successful applicants, whose files were marked with "P", unsurprisingly. Also, unsurprisingly, she left what she viewed as a hopeless career when preparing the file for her own job....

UPDATE for Scouse (and any others interested) on the Amphur divorce (non) recognition by Embassy matter : A senior Government official in the UK has now prepared a letter for the Embassy confirming that the Amphur divorce is recognised and that the named gentleman concerned is free to marry. Would you believe it ??.The Embassy has now asked that in addition the above document be endorsed "that it complies with the Law" !!!! Could you imagine a senior Civil Servant issuing such a document / marriage licence if it was unlawful and did not comply with the law of the land ? The Embassy incompetance beggars belief.
