I'm interested in teaching English online,my students would all be in China and I would be in Thailand,I read somewhere that you don't need a work permit for this as you are making all your money abroad,is this correct?

Not correct but in practice who is going to know ? Just be quiet and tell your neighbors you like to watch TV when they ask what you do all day in your room.

 

As far as generating money abroad, how about making a machine and selling it to a Chinese guy in China ? 

 

You are doing the same thing, using resources and physical presence in Thailand to generate money...just shhhhhhhh.

Officially you need a work permit and you have to pay taxes.

Shh: do as you please and never post your intentions  on here. Word of caution choose your agency wisely. If 300 bht for 80 mins work pops up walk away. Never belive when they say oh your on a months or twos trial then the money goes up! Or 10 mins prep time non paid.
