Four tourists charged with extortion

Featured Replies

Four tourists were yesterday charged with extortion after attempting to squeeze money from another tourist in exchange for not killing him after he touched one of their girlfriends while out drinking beers. Ly Sothy, a police officer with the Interior Ministry’s penal department, identified the four suspects as Singaporean nationals Sun Hunming Kane, 36, and Qiao Chu, 28, Indian national Ahrun Naranyan, 42, and Malaysian national Yee Vincent, 28.

Mr Sothy said the four men took Malaysian tourist Cheng Win Hui, 38, out for beers on August 19, with their four girlfriends. Mr Cheng held the hand of Mr Naranyan’s girlfriend on the night out, after which the group demanded $5,000 from him over the following days, by email and in-person, in order for them not to kill him.

“They emailed the victim and ordered him to pay Mr Naranyan $5,000 if he did not want to be killed,” said Mr Sothy, noting the victim then filed a lawsuit against the group. Police arrested the four suspects on August 25, and each suspect was charged yesterday with threats accompanied by extortion.

Good for him, let us hope they have a long holiday at the Bangkok Hilton

Doubtful - it happened in Cambodia.

They "emailed" death threats. Can't be any more stupid than that.

Why would Cambodia send its convicts to a Bangkok prison?
