August 31, 20179 yr Lucky escape for family of five from fire By The Nation RAYONG: -- A man managed to pull down the iron window grill on the second floor of his house in Rayong province to enable his wife and three children flee from a fire late Wednesday night, police said. Thirachai Thonchai, 47, his wife, and their three children escaped uninjured after the fire broke out in the first floor of their house in Tambon Thepa of Ban Chang district about half an hour past midnight. Firefighters took about 30 minutes to control the blaze. Thirachai told police that he was woken up by the smell of smoke and the heat. When he opened the bedroom, he saw thick smoke coming up from the first floor so he woke up his wife and children. He managed to remove the iron grille of the window and shouted out to his neighbours to help receive his children from him before he and his wife climbed down. August 31, 20179 yr This sounds like a good reason not to have bars on your windows. An alarm/deadlocks/a dog inside the house or all three are a far safer solution.
