Visitor’s Visa For My Wifes Brother

Featured Replies

Hi, my Thai brother-in-law is going to apply for a visitor’s visa to come to the UK for 6 months. Could someone help me with the following:-

1. I have sent copies of all my documents to him in Thailand. Is that OK or does he need to produce original documents at the Embassy. I do not want to post my passport etc. to Thailand.

2. Can he pay cash, and how much will it cost for the visa and application?

3. He live in Khon Kaen, can he post the application.

4. If he does travel to Bangkok will they issue his visa on the same day, or will they post his visa and documents back to Khon Kaen

Thankyou in advance for any help.

Regards

Gibbo

Gibbo,

To answer your questions in the order to ask them:-

1. Either originals or certified copies will be required. Under no circumstances send your passport: make sure you send a certified copy.

2. No, it has to be a cashier's cheque which he can obtain from any Thai bank.

3. He can either post or courier the application.

4. All visa applications are now made to the visa application centre and they forward them on to the embassy, so, even if your brother-in-law gets his visa, it's going to be a minimum of 3-4 working days for the process to be completed.

I'd advise working your way through the visa application centre website before your brother-in-law does anything.

Oops...you've forgotten dear Scouse that they do not accept cashiers checks at ukvac !!!

Been into this many times. Its crazy and illogical. Nope, has to be a draft which can be easily obtained from major Thai banks. Don't fret...a draft is ten baht cheaper than a cashier check.

I am amazed, topfield has at last got something right!

Thank you for the advice guys.

Will he need to translate the usual documents (Passport, Marriage Certificate, ID card, Birth Certificate and House Registration) into English.

The fee's he will have to pay if he appiles in Bangkok and collects the stamped passport are:-

A service charge of 425 THB plus 7% VAT is payable per passport (Cash).

Six Month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa 3750 THB (Banker's draft).

Thank you for your help.

One more thing, can he ask to have the visa start on a certain date, or does it

start when it's issued?

Normally it starts from the date of issue and gives him 6 months to enter and leave the UK. He has to leave on or before 6 months after the date of issue. You can defer the date of issue by upto 3 months but must state that on the application form.

does anyone know of a brother of spouse granted a visitors visa recently?
