Thaksin's lawyer opposes interim prime minister proposal

BANGKOK: -- Noppadon Pattama, the personal lawyer of the deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, today voiced opposition to a proposal of a ruling Pheu Thai Party’s MP for an interim prime minister appointed from an outsider.

The lawyer posted on his Facebook opposing the proposal of Pheu Thai MP Samart Kaewmeechai to amend Article 291 of the Constitution.

Noppadon said Samart’s proposal to prohibit existing and past politicians to end their political career for life, paving the way for new and young politicians to run in the election, was not the party’s stance.

He said that such proposal was merely the MP’s personal opinion, adding this proposal has never been raised and discussed at the meeting of the Pheu Thai party’s strategy committee before.

It was not the opinion of the party, he said, and went on saying that as far as he knew no developing country would resort to such mean, except in the United States where the law prohibits the president to serve in office for more than two terms.

The Pheu Thai MP Samart came up with the interim prime minister after rejecting anti-Thaksin protest leader Suthep Thuagsubn’s proposal to invoke Article 7 of the Constitution to appoint an interim prime minister from outsiders.

According to Samart’s proposal to amend Article 291, he said once an interim prime minister is appointed, the House will be dissolved to pave the way for a new election – in which case Suthep should contest the election if he wants to fulfill his idea of the People’s Council to draw up a national reform blueprint.

Suthep, in his capacity as the People’s Committee for National Reform for Complete Democracy, has demanded Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra dissolve the House and then resign in order to create a political vacuum so that an interim prime minister can be appointed by the people and then endorsed by His Majesty the King.

But the Pheu Thai MP Samart said that Suthep’s proposal is unconstitutional as the prime minister must be an elected MP. Also, he noted that Prime Minister Yingluck will serve as acting prime minister in case she actually steps aside.

None of his business, but a good chance for free advertisement for himself...

He is the leader of Thailand's mouthpiece. Whatever he says (even though predictable) is very relevant to the current situation.

Indeed, lawyers don't talk for themselves they talk for their clients.

Headline should read "Thaksin opposes........................................."

Once again we see who is really running the PT, the Govt and the country.

There's a million other reason to see why Thaksin is involved in the Government. Some words of his lawyer (one of his lawyers), is not showing us who is running the PT, Govt, and country... Imho...

So who do you think is running the government? After all, we have seen just how experienced Yingluck is!

Just like this?

I don't believe this picture/ clip. Because KT has been finished with politics after the Beijing Olympics.giggle.gif

He records just his cooking receipts, Som Tam Shin, Tom Yum Khun Thaksin style.

"than add some cambodian onion........"

Has nothing to do with politics....And Noppadon only comments as concerned citizen who has only the best for Thailand in his mind.
