Importing Car From Uk To Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi

I am interested in importing a second hand car from the UK to Thailand does anyone have experience in doing this ? Also does anyone have contacts for shipping and custom related documentation ?

I researched this a little while ago after being advised not to bother.

You will get hit with import tax of a lot more than the value of the car and when added to the shipping charges it isn't a viable option.

Unless there is a reason you need this particular car I really wouldn't go down this line.

Check out following website (Thai Customs department)

http://www.customs.go.th/Customs-Eng/Perso...Nme=PersonalPer

It's clearly stated that importing second hand cars is not allowed (prohibited items) apart from 2 exceptions:

1) you come to work here, have a non immigrant visa and a work permit valid for 1 year

2) Returning Thai Nationals...

Even if you fall under number 1, you'll see further down the page that you'll pay between 213% and 308% import taxes and duties!

If your car is just under 10 years old you can cut 70% of this tax (not deduct, but cut, so if you have to pay 308%, you can cut 70% with 238% taxes remaining to be paid!)

Add to this all the pocket money to be paid to make it go smooth, plus the fact that the customs department will decide what the value of you car is on which to calculate the taxes....

Better not to bother!

Spot on. Enquired before and decided not to bother. And the value of the vehicle is determined by Thai customs................not on what you paid for it.

Forget it. I'm all my life in the car business and i no not even one person who can get his car legally overhere. not possible.
