March 9, 200818 yr Ok, I know it's not pet-related but thought this was probably the best place. Does anyone know-of a book of Thai birds, preferably in English? I've tried looking in the usual places but to no effect. Perhaps Thai people just aren't interested in their feathered friends, I don't know. I see a lot of fascinating birds but just don't know anything about them. Any ideas?
March 9, 200818 yr I don't know any books, but I see SBK already has one for you. I've got a link to a website of birds of Thailand for you http://www.pbase.com/peterericsson/birds_of_thailand . It helped me out a lot!
March 10, 200818 yr Probably the best is: "A Field Guide to the Birds of South-East Asia" by Ben King, Martin Woodcock and E.C. Dickerson Asia Books have it in most of their branches. Patrick Edit : Authors' name Edited March 10, 200818 yr by p_brownstone
March 16, 200818 yr . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . This is the most up to date field guide to the birds of Thailand. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . This one is older but, in my opinion, the best... Both widely available throughout the kingdom
March 16, 200818 yr ^ I haven't read the others but the above left 'Craig Robson' book is an excellent resource.

The book by Dr. Boonsong and Philip Round has the names of the birds in Thai. I like it for that reason but the illustrations are not so good as in the "Birds of South East Asia book, in addition since the "Country List" for Thai birds is still growing that book is more useful for identifying Birds which you may come across but are not included by Boonsong / Round. March 17, 200818 yr Reading one of these books I was quite surprised to see that Vultures visit parts of Thailand every year.
April 8, 200818 yr I must live in the only place in Thailand that doesn't have sparrows. You can't be looking hard enough. I've got a roof full here. Sparrows must be the only thing that Isaan folk don't eat.
April 10, 200818 yr Author Thanks for all the suggestions, everybody. I'll be getting at least one of the above.

Sparrows must be the only thing that Isaan folk don't eat. I am British, I know what a sparrow looks and sounds like. The nearest spuggies are about 20km from me. Where I live is almost a complete bowl with just a small gap for the river to pass in/out.
