Tourist Visa 30 Day Extension

Featured Replies

I am in Thailand on 60 day tourist visa. 60 day period ends Dec 1 and I plan to extend for 30 days in Chiangmai.

Can I wait until the last day or two to do this or mujst I do it a certain number of days in advance?

thanks

Best not to wait until the last day just in case something is not right.

I would suggest a week or so early would be a good idea. Doing it early does not affect the time of your overall permit to stay.

thanks. will do

As ubonjoe said, do it earlier, however, waiting for the last day doesn't really hurt; I remember a time when I got the extension one day after my visa was expired and I think the immigration in Bangkok accepted my request, for the reason that the day before happened to be a holiday. But play it safe anyhow.

I wasn't really planning to wait until the last day but wanted to understand the constraints of the regulations.

thanks to all

Do they always give 30 days? or is it at their discretion? Can they deny the extension?

Thirty days is what they give. I have never heard or read of one being denied.

The the only exception is for those from countries that are on the visa on arrival list.

Yes. 30 days is routinely given.

Yes. 30 days is routinely given.

I have seen several postings on the Udonmap site that says that Nong Khai is not granting 30 day extensions unless you can show a ticket out of LOS at the end of the 30 days. Any truth to this? If applying what are the particulars concerning required documents to take to immigration?

Not that I have heard of. There is nothing in the Immigration website saying this.

Nong Kai are a bit of a rule unto themselves and anything is possible.
